The third grade reading/ language arts curriculum focuses on the theme of Similarities and Differences through literature discussion groups, stategies for making meaning from text, word study, and writing workshop. Flexible grouping instruction is utilized to meet the needs of all students. This is also applied to the INVESTIGATIONS program in mathematics. In addition the math program is supplemented with the on-line First-in-Math Program. A hands-on science curriculum provides students with opportunities to experience and discover principles and applications about life cycles, structures, energy, and the solar system. Technology is utilized by students in presentations and publishing. The social studies curriculum is integrated with reading/language arts and students have the opportunity to learn about Native American cultures. In the Spring of third grade, students participate in the PA State Reading/Math Assessment. Student progress will be reported in relationship to State and District standards.
