Fifth Graders learn about meterology, biomes, oceanography and energy-kinetic-potential through their study of science. The social studies curriculum is supported and enriched through the use of literature selections emphasizing the theme, CONFLICT / RESOLUTION especially in American History. Students participate in simulations and virtual internet sites. The History Alive Program creates student experiences of decision-making reflected in historical events. The language arts program is integrated and promotes student communication through literature discussion groups, book clubs, questioning, Paideia Seminars, direct reading instruction, and reading/writing workshop with book conferencing. The students also participate in a hands-on algebraic equations program and problem-solving strategies are stressed in mathematics. The students participate in the Pennsylvania State Writing Assessment and the Pennsylvania State Reading/Math Assessment.
